Express Entry

Express Entry is an electronic system used to manage the applications of skilled workers who wish to become permanent residents of Canada. Once an interested candidate submits an online profile, the federal government determines if the candidate is eligible for a program managed by Express Entry. Eligible candidates are accepted into the Express Entry pool and are ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

The CRS is a points-based system used by the government to assess and rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. The CRS score is calculated based on a candidate’s age, education, work experience, language skills, as well as other factors based on Express Entry Criteria.

Approximately every two weeks, the Canadian government selects the highest-scoring candidates from the Express Entry pool and provides them with an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

How can I apply for Express Entry?

Before you start building your profile, below are few important steps to complete:
  1. Language test results: It is mandatory to prove your knowledge effectively in one of the two official Canadian languages English or French.
  2. Educational credential assessment (ECA) report: Applicants who are educated outside of Canada are required to have their degrees accessed to ensure their foreign education is equivalent to similar Canadian education.
  3. Determine your eligibility for Express Entry Immigration. It is highly advisable to access your eligibility for Express Entry programs.
  4. Determine your National Occupation Classification (NOC): If you wish to immigration to Canada, you will have to fulfill the work experience requirement as per the definition laid down in the Canada’s National Occupation Classification (NOC) database.

Applying to Express Entry is a two-step process

Create and Submit your Express Entry Profile

If you are eligible for Express Entry as per the online eligibility tool, this implies you are eligible to create express entry profile. In order to create your profile, you require the following important documents:

  • Title and National Occupation Classification (NOC) code.
  • A passport or travel document
  • Spousal details (If applicable)

Once your profile is completed, go ahead and submit your profile. After you submitted your profile, you need to wait patiently until you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence. After you receive ITA you will need to provide a more substantial application that includes reference letters, additional identity documents, police clearance certificates, and results of a medical examination.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The immigration process in Canada is very simple and structured and provide equal opportunity to everyone who wish to settle in Canada. There are various routes through which an applicant can become permanent resident of Canada. One such route is Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) which is equally good at providing multiple advantages to the immigration applicants.

Provincial Nominee Program as the name suggest are the immigration programs that give different provinces and territories across Canada an active role in immigrant selection, appropriate for its labor market and economy needs. Immigrants are selected according to their work experience, skills, and education. The criteria used in selecting applicants vary from Province or Territory.

Under PNP, there are two streams with which one can immigrate to Canada, that is:

  1. Express Entry, as a skilled worker. To be eligible for the PNPs Express Entry stream, one should:
    • Have a complete Express Entry profile and meet the minimum requirement for eligibility to the pool.
    • Meet the minimum needs of that particular province or territory’s Express Entry stream.
    • Be nominated under that particular stream.
  1. Non-Express Entry or otherwise known as the paper-based process. To apply, you should be:
    • Nominated under this stream.
    • Meet the minimum requirements for eligibility to this stream.

Different provinces/territories have different requirements for Provincial Nominee Programs. For more information, please contact us.

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program has two programs for skilled workers:
